Socks in the Gairloch Pattern
<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b>Gairloch Museum<\/b><\/h1>\n

[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]These socks are knitted in the unique \u2018Gairoch pattern\u2019, first documented in the mid-nineteenth century. <\/p>\n

The Mackenzies of Gairloch supported work schemes for their tenants during the potato famine in the 1840s. Spinning and knitting were encouraged to provide an income for women.<\/p>\n

Gairloch stockings were of high quality and were imported to Edinburgh and London.
