[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]This nameplate belonged to a much-loved Highland GP, Dr Lachlan Grant, who served the community of Ballachulish for 45 years until his death in 1945.<\/p>\n

A high-flying medical student at the University of Edinburgh Medical School, Dr Grant could have chosen one of a number of well-paid specialisms. Instead, he chose to return to the West Highlands for general practice. <\/p>\n

He was an integral part of the community, passionate about the Gaelic language, outspoken about his love of shinty and an inventive and interesting character. He also delivered many Highland babies.<\/p>\n

When he was dismissed from his role as the medical officer for the Ballachulish Slate Quarry Company in 1902, the workers were so upset that they organised strikes on his behalf.
