This special horn would have contained blasting powder, used by workers at Ballachulish Quarry.<\/p>\n
The slate was formed during Precambrian times, approximately 800 million years ago. This metamorphic rock was used to create slate roof tiles for the surrounding area, as well as for cities like Glasgow and Edinburgh. Holes were drilled into the rock and filled with powder.<\/p>\n
The resulting blast released rocks of a smaller size which could then be processed into the roofing slates.<\/p>\n
This was known to have been used by a Mr MacColl and donated by his daughter.<\/p>\n
