The Victoria Cross is the most prestigious award in the British Army, and is given for exceptional bravery in the presence of the opposition. <\/span><\/p>\n

This Victoria Cross was awarded to Sergeant Alexander Edwards for his actions at Pilckem Ridge on 14th September 1917 during World War One. This was the opening attack of the Third Battle of Ypres. He led the charge to capture a machine gun that was firing on his battalion; despite suffering several injuries, he continued to fight and defend his fellow soldiers.<\/span><\/p>\n
