This tall-backed wooden chair has always been associated with Prince Charles Edward Stuart \u2013 also known as Bonnie Prince Charlie.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is believed to have been given to MacDonald of Glencoe by the Prince\u2019s daughter, Princess Charlotte, Duchess of Albany. The museum has had strong links with the MacDonalds of Glencoe; Mrs Jean MacDonald-Clarke, a direct descendant of the MacDonald chiefs, was involved in the early days of the museum. It was through her that the museum was able to acquire a number of significant Jacobite items in the collection.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The chair has an ornate carved back in the Baroque style as well as its original red velvet seat and back covering, dating the object to the mid-fifteenth century and the Stuart period.<\/span><\/p>\n
