Simple objects like this help us to understand how people of the past would have lived. Bicycle travel was common and this light belonged to Robert Ross who lived in the village of Balintore, on the Easter Ross Peninsula.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He would certainly have needed a light as he travelled around the Seaboard villages – there would have been no electric street lights.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ross served in the Royal Navy but tragically drowned at sea in the early 1940s whilst aboard an Arctic Convoy. He was posthumously awarded the Atlantic Star, on display at the Seaboard Centre, and buried on the Faroe Islands\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
