Communion tokens were widely used in the Presbyterian Churches of Scotland. Parishioners would need to be approved by the elders of the church. Those showing adequate knowledge and thought to be living \u2018upright\u2019 lives received tokens which would be well looked after and viewed as symbols or badges of spirituality.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This Victorian token is from the Cromarty East Church, once known as the English Church because the services were held in English. It is one of the finest examples of post-Reformation churches in Scotland, now cared for by Historic Churches Scotland.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
