Selkirk Grace Box in Gaelic

This decorative wooden board has been inscribed with a Gaelic translation of the words of the Selkirk Grace, usually attributed to Scottish Bard Robert Burns:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Some hae meat and canna eat,\u00a0\u00a0
<\/span>And some wad eat that want it,\u00a0\u00a0
<\/span>But we hae meat and we can eat,\u00a0\u00a0
<\/span>Sae let the Lord be Thankit!\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is said before eating. Although it is believed to have been known before Burns, it takes his name from an occasion when he is known to have said it at a dinner given by the Earl of Selkirk in 1794.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The inscription was created using a technique of pyrography, by burning the lettering into the wood.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
