Knitted Suit

This dusky pink, two-piece knitted suit was created by well-known Gairloch knitter Becca Macaulay. She created it using a knitting machine designed for making socks, with wool shorn from sheep on the donor\u2019s family croft in Porthenderson and spun in Brora.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The suit was made for a sixteen-year-old girl in 1951.\u00a0 Her name was Jemima (Jimmy for short) and she later emigrated to Australia where she married and had a family.\u00a0 Although the suit still fitted her in her eightieth year, she decided to send it back to Gairloch so the Museum could look after it, showing her strong connections to the area, despite the passage of so many years!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The top is a button jacket and the skirts hangs in elegant pleats. Despite being well worn it is in great condition.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
