This collection of birds\u2019 eggs was assembled by a local hotel owner called Mr Clark between 1905 and 1910. The eggs were collected along the shore of Loch Gairloch. At the time, the shores were much quieter and birds nested there.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Around twenty different species are represented \u2013 all seabirds. Some of the species can no longer be seen in the Gairloch area, so the egg collection is an interesting indicator of the decline in diversity of species. The collection is also very much of its time; the collecting of wild birds\u2019 eggs is now heavily restricted and, in some cases, a criminal offence.<\/span><\/p>\n
