7th Camerons at the Battle of Loos\u2019 by Joseph Gray
<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b>The Highlanders’ Museum<\/b><\/h1>\n

This oil painting shows the 7th Battalion Cameron Highlanders in the midst of the Battle on Hill 70 which took place on September 25th, 1915.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This battle took place at Loos on the Western Front and is notable for the first use of poisoned gas as a weapon by the British. It was also during this battle that Lieutenant-Colonel Douglas-Hamilton, of the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders, was awarded a Victoria Cross for bravery.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The artist, Joseph Gray, initially fought with the Black Watch before being enlisted as an official war artist. His role was to capture a visual record of battlefields and enemy positions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
