Childhood was quite different in the 1950s than it is today! Children had far fewer toys, particularly as the country emerged from the privations and rationing of World War Two. During that time, factories, materials, and labour were all needed for the war effort. Children had to make do with simple distractions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Marbles were very popular in the 1950s, especially at school break times. Players took turns at trying to knock their opponents’ marbles out \u2013 they could win marbles from their friends (and perhaps make a few enemies in the process!).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
