This photograph shows a Victorian-built hotel in Rosemarkie on the Black Isle during its heyday in the 1920s. The Hawkhill Hotel, later known as the Marine Hotel, benefitted from Rosemarkie\u2019s popularity as a tourist destination.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The hotel was frequented by wealthy patrons. Rosemarkie rose in popularity during the late Victorian period and the hotel was further extended during the 1930s. Though the Black Isle remains an important tourist destination, like other British resorts it would have been affected by the rise in affordable foreign travel. This building has housed a care home for the elderly since 1996.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
