Australian Boomerang
The Highlanders’ Museum

This boomerang was presented to the Queen’s Own Highlanders by the 16th Battalion, the Royal Western Australia Regiment, in 1969. It is a symbol of international friendship between the regiments, particularly after World War Two, which brought armies from across the globe to fight together.

Australia was under British rule until 1942, but is part of the Commonwealth – this is a group of countries who were once part of the British empire. The British monarch is also the Head of State in Australia.

This boomerang shows how Britain and Australia remained close after independence.
