Cricket Bat
Nairn Museum

This ‘’Classic Super’’ cricket bat is made of willow and dates from the Victorian era. Willow is dense and fibre compact which makes it strong.

Cricket was one of the most popular sports during this time, along with horse racing and football. The growth of leisure time among the middle classes contributed to its popularity.

The sport was also seen as a way to promote teamwork and discipline amongst workers.

The bat’s label reads: ‘’Superlative in quality, style and finish, made in Pakistan’’. This also shows the influence of British culture during the colonial period in pre-partition India.

The bat would have been hand crafted.
