Fly Belonging to Megan Boyd
Brora Heritage Centre

This beautiful brooch has been fashioned out of a salmon fly that was ‘tied’ by Megan Boyd.

Megan Boyd is a celebrated figure in the Highlands. From a humble background in Brora, Megan became the most famous salmon fishing fly-dresser in the world. Her skill with fly-tying made her highly sought after with salmon fishers and she attracted attention from the wealthy, including royalty.

Works of art and labours of love, Megan’s exquisitely-crafted flies brought her acclaim in 1971 when she was awarded the British Empire Medal. The film ‘Kiss the Water’ was also made, based on her life in Brora.
