Hoard of Medieval Coins

Seaboard Centre

This coin hoard was unearthed by a local metal detectorist, detecting in and around the Seaboard villages.

It contains Scots pennies, bawbees (also known as sixpence) and other low-value coins known as billons. It is likely that the coins date from the early 1600s.

The coins were discovered in the ground, but it is possible that they were held together in a leather pouch that has since decomposed. The owner must have been very disappointed to have lost them.
