The Highlander’s Museum

These medals were awarded to Janet Adams MBE, who served in the International Red Cross for over twenty years. The humanitarian organisation was founded to protect human life and alleviate suffering.

She was awarded the prestigious Florence Nightingale Medal for her special contribution to nursing. The award was named after the famous Crimean War nurse, who was instrumental in developing modern nursing.

Her role took her all over the world, including to Grenada in the Caribbean, where she helped out after a hurricane.
