Natural Heather Pot Scrubber
Gairloch Museum

These heather twigs, joined together with a piece of handmade hemp rope, are actually an inventive, natural pot scrubber.

They show the use of any available resources in the early 1950s, as the country emerged from the restrictions and privations of World War Two.

This pot scrubber also serves to remind us of the range of found materials used for everyday purposes before the wide availability of plastic and mass-production techniques.
