Portrait of Barbara Fairweather

Glencoe Folk Museum

This portrait depicts the co-founder of the Glencoe Folk Museum, Miss Barbara Fairweather, MBE, seated with a cat on her lap at her home.

It was painted by artist Phoebe Isabel Barrow (b.1930) who was also a trustee at the museum. 

Barbara was knowledgeable about a range of subjects and wrote extensively including about customs, traditions and folklore; farming and livestock; and the Ballachulish slate quarry. Under her chair is a copy of Highland Heritage, her own award-winning book which was written as a series of pamphlets, collected together in 1984.
