Shroud and Stockings
Gairloch Museum

Many people kept a shroud at home in case it was unexpectedly required for a death at a time when orders took many days to arrive in Gairloch. It shows the importance to a family of wanting to do right by the departed.

This example, including the stockings that were meant to accompany it, were never used.
