Weighing Scales
Nairn Museum

These weighing scales, with a removable pan, were essential for weighing produce and for baking.

It’s possible that they may have been used in shop settings to weigh produce, including vegetables. This would have been around the time when shops were independent offering personalised customer service.

There would have been a butcher, baker and a grocer to be found in towns and ingredients were purchased individually to be included in home cooking in the days before convenience food and ready meals!
