World War Two Plaque
Cromarty Courthouse Museum

This object gives us an insight into daily life during World War Two.

During the war, fundraising schemes were designed to encourage people to save by purchasing Government bonds and saving certificates. Such saving schemes allow governments to raise funds, which would have been much-needed in war-time Britain. Events were organised to raise money for field hospitals and military equipment.

Towns were set targets. This plaque shows that Cromarty successfully reached their target in 1944, when the theme was ‘Salute the Soldier’.
