Recruiting Poster for the Seaforth Highlanders by Tom Curr
The Highlanders’ Museum
Recruiting posters are designed to encourage people to enlist in the Army. They often employ a range of advertising techniques and persuasive devices. Nowadays they are sometimes classed as propaganda, the word referring to information that is promoting a particular viewpoint in a misleading or biased way.
This recruitment poster was designed to encourage enlistment to the Seaforth Highlanders. It shows a man in kilt and singlet with a hammer throw, emphasising traditional Highland dress and the quality of strength. The Seaforth Highlanders regimental crest is at the top of the poster.
