Station Master’s Hat
Grantown Museum

This hat belonged to A G Thom, the last stationmaster at Dava Station. The Station was closed in the 1965 as part of the large scale ‘Beecham Cuts’. The Dava Line had been an important goods line, and was one of the highest railway lines in the Highlands. The railway boom of the mid-1800s cut a swathe across the vast expanses of remote Highland moors. The railway carried intrepid Victorian tourists north for summer holidays while whisky, fish and livestock went south to market.
