World War One Civilian Pass
Cromarty Courthouse Museum

This object gives us an insight into daily life during World War One. At that time, Cromarty was a restricted military area, meaning that the civilian population was controlled in their movements.

Everybody had to carry a pass like this one which belonged to Elizabeth Finlayson. It was authorised by A. E. Campbell, one of the town’s police constables.
